Morphorm Advances Next-Generation AI-Driven Simulation Technology for Solar and Defense Sectors Through TRGR Initiative

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Morphorm, a New Mexico-based AI-driven engineering simulation and optimization company, is featured in the newly released TRGR FY2025 Progress Report following the successful completion of a collaborative project with Sandia National Laboratories. Facilitated by the Technology Readiness Gross Receipts (TRGR) Initiative, this partnership accelerated the commercial maturity of Morphorm’s proprietary software, validating new high-fidelity 3D multiphysics capabilities for the semiconductor, sustainable energy, and defense industries.

Founded by former Sandia researcher Miguel Aguilo, Morphorm was created to bridge the gap between advanced government research and practical industrial application. The company’s software is built upon Plato, an open-source platform developed by Sandia National Laboratories. While powerful, Plato’s complexity has historically presented a steep learning curve for commercial users.

Through the TRGR project, Morphorm collaborated with Sandia National Laboratories to enhance the software’s computational efficiency and expand its feature set. Key technical achievements from the collaboration include:

  • Enhanced Multiphysics Simulation: The addition of unique capabilities to simulate electrical, thermal, and mechanical behavior simultaneously.

  • Semiconductor Solutions: The completion of a specialized semiconductor simulation solver capable of characterizing the physical behavior of solar cells and modules in three dimensions.

"The TRGR Project has been a pivotal step in transforming advanced lab-developed simulation tools into practical solutions for industry," said Miguel Aguilo, Founder and CEO of Morphorm. "We're now able to deliver fast, 3D multiphysics capabilities that directly support innovation in semiconductors, solar energy, and defense."

Morphorm is currently validating the software using real-world data from a solar cell manufacturer and is formalizing a follow-on project with a U.S. original equipment manufacturer in the defense industry.
